Show True Courage

Psalm 82 is part of a collection of psalms (Ps. 73–83) all connected by a common theme: the need for faith in a world where evil appears to have the upper hand. In Psalm 82, God pulls back the curtain on the unseen realm and gives the psalmist a vision of a heavenly assembly of angels over which God stands as Judge. He charges them with injustice and showing partiality to the wicked–seeking to chip away at the foundations of righteousness and justice on which God founded the earth–and sentences them to death. As the psalm closes, the psalmist pleads with God to execute the sentence sooner rather than later. He longs to see God’s perfect justice fully and finally reign on the earth.
