Am I Offended?

Having just established that many Gentiles have come to faith but only some Jews, Paul explains the Gentiles pursued righteousness by faith, the Jews by works. Paul understands what they’ve done because he placed his confidence in both his Jewish lineage and obedience to the law for much of his life. In the end, those who try to earn God’s favor are trusting in themselves, and, in that sense, they have stumbled over the stumbling stone, Jesus Christ.
