“Is God Unfair?”

Though Paul wrote the book of Romans to churches in Rome, several times in the book, he addresses the objections to Christianity posed by Jewish skeptics. Romans 3:1–8 is an example. In Romans 1–2, he made the case that everyone deserves God’s judgment, including the Jewish people. His Jewish audience struggled to believe this. Paul’s answer to their objections tells us a great deal about the foundation of Christianity. God may not be fair, but he is just—he always does what is right.
