How Can I Be Humble?

Ever since making his Genesis 12 promise to Abraham, God has been building a true Israel—a people who are Abraham’s spiritual descendants because they believed God, and it was credited to them as righteousness. In Romans 11, Paul mainly refers to this true Israel as an olive tree. The branches are both Jews and Gentiles because it has always been God’s plan to create one people who worship him in Spirit and truth. Because this is true, pride is out of bounds. It is sinful and foolish to look down on another believer—we are all part of the same tree, after all.
