The apostle Paul wrote to his son in the faith, Titus, instructing him in a number of practical matters related to life in a local church, one of which is at heart of Mount Vernon's women's ministry - women discipling women. As Paul said, "Teach the older women to...train the younger women" (Titus 2:3-5).
Our women's ministry seeks to provide Bible studies, discipleship, fellowship, and service uniquely for women no matter what stage in life. Our desire is to see women encouraging and equipping one another to love Christ, obey God's word, and serve His church. Below are different ways we do that.
Hospitality
Baby Showers
We host church-wide and Christ-centered babyshowers as a time to honor first-time expectant mothers in the church. The intent is to encourage these expectant mothers spiritually, as well as to meet physical needs. The areas available to participate in are: hosting – planning, invitations; provision – food, beverage, paper products, décor; blessing – Scripture, prayer, wisdom.
Meals for New Mothers
We as a church seek to help care for families in the congregation that have just welcomed a newborn into their families. One of the ways we do this is by providing meals for a couple of weeks after the family has arrived home from the hosiptal.
Meals for Familes in Need
Women are by God's design helpers (Gen. 2:18, 3:2). The women of Mount Vernon seek to utiltize that gift and calling by helping individuals and families when in need, especially with providing meals.
Church-Wide Services
Mount Vernon's women's ministry is specially involved in helping organizing and plan many of our church-wide fellowships and receptions.
Special Events
Retreats
As a time of extended Bible study, fellowship, and prayer, the women's ministry periodically goes away for a few day retreat. This time is open to all women. The details of the next retreat are forthcoming.
Christmas Outreach
Every Christmas, the women's ministry host a Christmas a event for women. This is a great time of food, fellowship, and a brief devotional. There are also crafts and projections that go to support some of our mission efforts. All are invited to attend.
Irregular Gatherings
Periodically, the women of the church will gather on Saturdays for brunch. This is a sweet time of prayer and encouragement. There is singing and someone shares their testimony to the power of the gospel in their lives. All are invited to attend.

Covenant Groups
Covenant groups are small groups of 5-8 women, who engage in biblically-based discussions for the purpose of accountability and discipleship, aiming to mature in Christ and invest in other women. Inductive Bible study or Christian book study are the teaching methods used in Covenant Groups, and they are open to members only.
Prayer
In addition to our Sunday evening gatherings, some women meet every 2nd and 4th Tuesday for an extended time of prayer. They pray for a variety of things related to the women's ministry and church family.
